Dr Laura Huxford, a consultant from United Kingdom presented her proposal on how to improve reading ability amongst children in Brunei Darussalam. She had visited primary schools, had a discussion with the lecturer from the UBD, Dr Elizabeth Liew as well as other Education officers to enable her to get a broad picture.
She arrived to the following conclusions:
- Reading methodology
- SPN21 curriculum
- Common elements within the two languages, Malay and English.
Dr Laura Huxford also proposed the training requirements for teachers:
- Pra Bahasa Melayu
- Year 1 English
- EPPS
She proposed to change the English Project for Pre-School (EPPS) as the English Programme for Pre-School.. suggesting improving English via Bahasa Melayu.
