Olwen McNamara, Professor of Education
On 28th January 2009, our school was visited by Prof.Olwen Mc Namara along with the other Education Officers from the Ministry of Education. The school was informed that the purpose of the visit was to have a closer picture of the implementation of SPN21 and also to identify any suitable courses or training for the teachers towards the changes as some of the subjects to be taught were new for the teachers. Her visit has given the teachers the opportunity to discuss about the changes. It also shows how concern the Ministry is about the teachers. The teachers need support for them to succeed in the implementation of the changes in curriculum and Prof.McNamara was very concern about the teachers as some of them need to go along with the new curriculum as well as maintaining the older curriculum for the pupils who are still using the old curriculum.
The classes visited by the Professor were those who are using the SPN21 curriculum - Preschool, Year 1 and Year 4. She stated that the Smart Mathematics book was very good as she looked through the workbook. During this visit, she was given the honour to plant a seedling of 'Pingpong Longan' to mark the opening of the School Science Garden i.e. Raudhatul Madrasah. She also presented the school a book titled 'Oxford' for remembrance and the school also presented her a bag of 'Unexpected Treasure'.
